| DeKalb Dems,
This month, we celebrate the life and impact of Janel Green, our Congressional District 4 Chair. Janel, a friend to so many of us and fierce defender of democratic values here in DeKalb and across Georgia, passed on to her next life on November 2, 2023 after fighting a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Janel passed away at just 55 years old, leaving behind a devoted and close-knit family, including her 16-year-old son, Sanders, her mother Carol, and sister Jacqui.

Her passing is felt deeply not only by her family, but also her numerous friends, extended family, and fellow Democratic advocates across the state.
Throughout her life, Janel dedicated her time, energy, and spirit to advancing democratic causes. She spent a significant portion of her life marching and fighting for the rights of others, and supporting Democratic party initiatives, candidates, and elected officials. She founded The Georgia Alliance for Social Justice and played a key role in organizing the Women's March and the March for our Lives in Atlanta, and served as our elected Congressional District 4 Chair here in DeKalb County. While she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched, her enduring legacy will continue to shine brightly.
If you wish to honor and remember Janel, there are two meaningful options available: - donate blood to help other chemotherapy patients
- make a monetary donation to support her son, Sanders, in his educational journey, by mailing a check to "The Janel Jeras Green Living Trust" at 3213 Lindmoor Dr. Decatur, GA 30033
Thank you for joining us in commemorating the life and contributions of Janel Green, a dedicated and passionate advocate for our shared values. Together, we can keep her memory alive and continue the work she was so passionate about.
Yours in the fight, Brandi Wyche, Chair, DeKalb County Democratic Committee |

Stand Against Voter Challenges in DeKalb County
You answered the call once. Now we need you again. Republicans continue to challenge DeKalb voters, identifying “fraudulent” voters who they believe should be purged from the rolls, a "right" provided by SB 202, GA’s voter suppression law.
Voter challenges waste time and disenfranchise voters, so come speak out against this practice during public comment at the start of a special DeKalb Board of Elections meeting. When: Tuesday, November 14 12pm Where: 4380 Memorial Dr., Ste. 300, Decatur |

| | Georgia Districts Redrawn, Potential for Democrats to Gain Congressional Seat
Big news for Georgia Democrats! After Georgia’s Republican-drawn district maps were challenged in court on the grounds of discrimination, a federal judge ordered the Georgia Legislature to redraw district lines to ensure fair representation for Black voters.
This could mean an extra Democratic seat in the U.S. House and several more in the GA State Legislature. A Special Session to fix the maps has been called for November 29th. Stay tuned for the outcome! |
